Hi ...

I would be interested to know if any Trust's who implemented iCM or iPM and are using the systems to generate immediate discharge summary's.I am aware that the systems are supposed to have that capability however I am interested to know what sort of output is being created. Is it simply a printed document or is there a specific file output as well?

As I am sure people are aware, there seems to be alot of interest in the distribution of these documents to the GP community. A key part of this service is the feed from the Trust in order to create the message.

I look forward to hearing from you guy's ...

I have been receiving discharge summaries from East Lancashire Hospitals (from their Medical Assessment Unit only for now) this last 3 months using the ICE platform and through the EMIS EDI links module. (I am a GP).

Rather clunky at the moment in HTML format. Letters are also faxed to us as a safety precaution initially. When the system becomes more robust the faxing will stop. Later I envisage more departments using this channel to communicate a patient’s discharge to us.

EL Hospitals are quite forward thinking, with Pathology Requesting being piloted for 2 years and now being rolled out to all GP’s and within secondary care later this year. Radiology links should be with us soon. Discharge summaries, as mentioned, are just getting going.

More interoperability of this nature is valued and does help us manage the patient.
