Ben Houghton - West Suffolk

We are about to begin our GP rollout and it has occurred to me to wonder how locations are identified through interop.

We have several practices that have multiple branches. When a user makes a request through EMIS or TPP, what location code will be supplied by the practice system? Will it be the practice code, (6 digits) or the full branch code, (8 digits)?

Do each of the branches therefore have to exist as separate, active locations within ICE?
Do the branch locations have to be merged with the parent location in ICE or do they all have to exist as separate entities?

Any guidance you who have gone before can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Don’t use branch codes in ICE all under the national practice code.
They system only works off one code. As all the patient details and results are in one db. You are trying to make things hard for you self. You would be splitting up the patients record at the practice it was set up like this.

Jamie is quite right, it just makes things more confusing.
Branch surgeries can be a pain in the backside, but only when you are working with paper. I got rid of the branch locations on our systems when we started with PMIP as from the GP clinical system perspective, the branch surgeries are just physically two different buildings but they use the same system, same data, same patients. Use the national practice codes for the location and the GP's
