At Sheffield Teaching Hospitals we currently use non networked Zebra label (& wristband) printers which are attached to PC's via a USB for requesting. We have rolled this model out mostly on the wards but also in a few discrete OPD areas. The labels are currently printed at the time of request, which is frequently not at the time of sampling. We have not yet utilised the worklist or e bookings finctionality in ICE but are looking into using this regarding the roll out to the rest of the trust.

2012 sees the trust implementing a wireless network which will enable different ways of working with requesting. We are particularly keen to utilise the new network to the best use for ICE requesting to improve safety for patients by generating the sample label at the bedside at the time of sampling.

We would like to learn from other trusts who already have a wireless network and ICE requesting to understand:

1) What mobile/wireless solutuion you chose - ie label, wistband printers and PC/laptop/MCA/tablet/Cart/trolley combinations

2) Why you chose them and costings involved

3) How you have got on with them, any problems?

4) Any advice or information on setting up of ICE for label generation at the time of sampling.

Thanks very much
Helen Baxter
