We are looking at using the File function to fulfill our obligations under NPSA16, that requires everyone to provide an audit trail for results acknowledgement.  NPSA16 only referrs to Radiology results but there can be little point in requesting lab tests if you don't read the results!!!  Our clincians are quivering at thought of having to log into ICE, read all their results, file them and acknowledge they have acted appropriately to the contenets of the reports. The current method revolves around medical sectretaries and paper reports!

Is there any out there using ICE filing for results acknowledgement?  It would be helpful for me to have a chat with a site with a view to coming over and having a look at how your clinicians deal with this.

I take it that although a number of people have red this post, no seems to be using ICE for filing results.  Perhaps I should have asked why people  don't use ICE instead??  Have you looked at it and rejected it as an option?

Cheers

I think we have all been waiting for the clinician’s comments to be made available. I know of a lot of users who are interested in using the file or as we have it named 'Actioned' button.

Are you going to get Sunquest to file all of your reports prior to your go live date, and will you be asking the recipient of reports to file every single one?

The reason I ask is we are concerned that the agreed un-reported or Auto reported with' no report issued' may never get Actioned.

WE do not want to take this work on within Radiology. But Like you I am trying very hard to get the Actioned reports button activated and the system working, so that we can manage the NPSA 16 requirements.

It also will show how many reports we issue are not ever reviewed, unless the clinician uses the PACS to read the report. This then requires interoperability between PACS and ICE to show that the report has been actioned, via PACS.

If you are going ahead with this, please keep me informed as I would like to discuss any outcomes and pitfalls you may encounter

p.s. I do not think many of our colleagues actually log into this website, they only read and move on. This is why I wish to make it more user friendly with a lot of interesting downloads and attachments only available once logged in.

I know there are a number of Trusts uising report filing now. I know some have had difficulties implmenting due to the manual process of having to click file on each result. We are doing further enhancements to the system in our Berg.1 release next year to autofile reports based on certain conditions (eg all path normal results, all GP reuslts etc) Suggest this is brought up as a discussion point at the National User Group this year on the 11th October.

At UHBristol we would ideally like to be able to use the report filing function. The implementation of this has been curtailed by some issues with going back to the next report in sequence on the report filing screen. Users also wanted bulk signing options of groups of pathology reports as signing individual ones is so onerous. We are awaiting developments/fixes in ICE before revisiting this.

We would also like the ability to 'autosign' reports using a combination of consultant, location and dates to be able to create a 'blank' sheet for signing to commence. The plan would be to make this a KPI in Divisional reports for the Trust.

I also hear rumour that the Rowthorne version of CRIS will support an acknoeledgement message on the HL7 interface. This will require work for ICE to send back the message on filing but would allow completion of the acknowledgement cycle.
